In a state of the nation address late Tuesday, outgoing Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi invited the four presidential candidates for a dialogue as part of a bid to end post-election unrest that has left several people dead and dozens of others injured.

The victory of Frelimo’s candidate Daniel Chapo in Mozambique’s October election is being contested by his opponent, who claims to have escaped an assassination attempt and has fled the continent.

Mozambican opposition leader Venâncio Mondlane called for fresh protests against the results of last month’s election and encouraged supporters to target trade routes with neighboring South African and Zimbabwe.
